January 18th, 2012Big Changes for Top Level Domain Names
January 12th, 2012- There are 2 billion Internet users globally
- Starting today ICANN is accepting new applications for top level domain names (ie .com) for first time in 10 years
- Applications cost about $185k and in about 12 to 18 months the applicants will find out if the “ending” has been approved.
- Eco there are definitely 2 applications being submitted. One a Canadian company, and one a US one backed by Al Gore.
Cleaning up Apache logs for generating statistics
October 20th, 2011In a shared hosting environment, sometimes you’ll need to clean up your log files before putting them through your stats package.
In our environment we rotate the logs, once per day, so we end up with:
access_log.20111019.gz access_log.20111018.gz access_log.20111017 access_log.20111016.gz
Depending of the file size, sometimes the files are compressed, sometimes they are not.
What we needed was an easy way to either remove erroneous entries, or split a log into separate files for each domain. The scripts below help us to do that.

Moreover, not the whole website, with its detailed information, but we often judge a company by the landing page on which we arrive. The landing page may be the home page of the whole site, or it can be the introductory page to a specific section or department within the website.
